Presentación / Overview:
Cuando se cumplen 50 años del Golpe de Estado y el inicio de la Dictadura Cívico Militar en nuestro país, son muchas las historias que necesitan ser relevadas. Relatos que no solo hablan de abusos contra nuestros compatriotas, sino también de resistencia y solidaridad. Por ello, hemos querido abordar un tema que siempre nos interesó, porque forma parte de la historia de nuestra ciudad: “El Puntarenazo”, la primera protesta que se hizo en presencia del propio Augusto Pinochet, y la terrible represalia que le siguió, el Bombazo a la Parroquia de Fátima. Los testimonios aquí reunidos provienen de personas con distintas creencias y militancias, unidas por su oposición a un régimen caracterizado por su crueldad. Y también por el hecho de haber presenciado eventos extraordinarios que marcaron las vidas de todos los involucrados. Aquí reunimos esas voces para tejer un relato coral y colectivo, a ratos muy crudo pero por lo mismo necesario, para que las nuevas generaciones conozcan lo que sucedió hace ya 40 años en una ciudad del confín del mundo. Para que sepan lo que es vivir en un país convertido en cárcel y así no escuchen a los que dicen que eso no ocurrió o que no sería malo que vuelva a ocurrir.
Dedicamos este trabajo a todas esas personas valientes que, a lo largo y ancho de nuestra geografía, corrieron los mayores riesgos para sacarnos de la oscuridad y el terror.
On the 50th anniversary of the coup d’état and the start of the Civil-Military Dictatorship in our country, there are many stories that need to be revealed. These stories not only speak to the abuses against our fellow citizens but also about resistance and solidarity. That’s why we wanted to address a subject that has always interested us as part of our city’s history: “The Puntarenazo”, the first protest that took place in the presence of Augusto Pinochet himself, along with the terrible retaliation that followed with the bombing of Fátima Parish. The testimonies collected here come from individuals with different beliefs and affiliations, united by their opposition to a regime known for its cruelty. They have also witnessed extraordinary events that left a lasting mark on the lives of everyone involved. Here, we bring together these voices to create a collective and chorus-like narrative, at times very raw but all the more necessary, so that new generations can learn about what happened 40 years ago in a city at the edge of the world. So that they know what it’s like to live in a country that has been transformed into a prison and so they do not listen to those who say that it never occurred or that it wouldn’t be so bad if it were to happen again.
We dedicate this work to all those courageous individuals who, throughout our country, took the greatest risks to lead us out of darkness and terror.

El Puntarenazo y el zarpazo de una bestia.
Estamos ante una obra documental capaz de comunicar una herida abierta, el zarpazo de una bestia depredadora que se coló en las rendijas de nuestra historia. El grupo musical Lluvia Ácida ha dado cuenta de testimonios e imágenes que documentan “El Puntarenazo”, la primera manifestación contra el dictador Augusto Pinochet en su presencia, acaecida 26 de febrero de 1984 en plena plaza de la ciudad de Punta Arenas. Allí, el tirano con su uniforme de inciertas batallas y su capa gris supo de la reacción de un pueblo que, tras las rejas de la catedral, le imputaba sus crímenes, bajezas y felonías. Todo ello desemboca en un conjunto de episodios vinculados a la represión política del régimen, que dan como resultado final los luctuosos hechos del 6 de octubre de aquel mismo año: la instalación de una bomba que destruyó la parroquia de “Nuestra Señora de Fátima” y que además acabó con la vida de quien puso el explosivo, un teniente del Ejército.
La música y el transcurrir del registro documental van dotando al espectador de un universo significativo, de una elocuencia para apreciar, por un lado, la impronta del dolor. Y en otro sentido, la hermosa sinfonía de la organización ciudadana. Me consta que como grupo musical y también como audiovisualistas, llevan una dilatada trayectoria desarrollando temas que tienen relación con las luchas sociales de nuestra comunidad meridional.
“Puntarenazo” es un trabajo donde conviven las voces del pasado para traducir un nuevo pacto con la historia. Demás está decir que muchas veces se tiende a recalcar tanto el Golpe como la dictadura como algo preferentemente ocurrido en Santiago, la capital política y administrativa de nuestro país. Pero también existió Dawson, Tejas Verdes, isla Quiriquina, Pisagua y, de igual manera, desde distintos espacios del territorio los ciudadanos se manifestaron contra la tiranía. En este caso, la ciudad continental más austral del mundo fue el escenario para ese gesto de rebeldía, fraguado en diferentes cabildos que se efectuaron en el corazón de la comunidad.
¿Desde dónde subsisten las palabras que fueron silenciadas y los dolores que jamás cicatrizaron? Es una verdad y un aserto, que el arte está allí muchas veces para interrogar ese trauma, para sumergirse en las profundidades y traer de vuelta las lecciones de la historia, hasta en ocasiones exponer la matriz de una época. Por ello Lluvia Ácida ha creado un documento único, impecable en su factura, que desentierra un tiempo donde el horror y la abyección fueron la divisa cotidiana. En medio de los coros amnésicos que algunos proponen en nuestro presente, han abordado la necesidad de la memoria y la épica de una comunidad lejana que se insurrectó contra los designios de un general encapotado y cruel que traicionó los más elementales principios de una república.
The Puntarenazo and the strike of a beast.
We are facing a documentary work capable of communicating an open wound, the slash of a predatory beast that slipped through the cracks of our history. The musical group Lluvia Ácida has offered an account of testimonies and images that document, “El Puntarenazo”, the first demonstration against dictator Augusto Pinochet in his presence, which took place on February 26, 1984, in the main square of the city of Punta Arenas. There, the tyrant in his uniform from uncertain battles and his gray cape encountered the reaction of a people who, behind the bars of the cathedral, accused him of his crimes, baseness, and felonies. All of this led to a series of episodes linked to the political expression of the regime, culminating in the tragic events of October 6 of that same year: the installation of a bomb that destroyed the parish of “Nuestra Señora de Fátima (Our Lady of Fatima)” and which also ended the life of the army lieutenant who placed the explosive.
The music and the progression of the documentary provide the viewer with a significant universe, an eloquence to appreciate, on the one hand, a mark of pain. And in another sense, the beautiful symphony of civic organization. I am aware that as a musical group and also as audiovisual artists, Lluvia Ácida have a long history of developing themes related to the social struggles of our southern community.
“Puntarenazo” is a work where the voices of the past coexist to convey a new pact with history. It goes without saying that many times there is a tendency to emphasize the Coup and the dictatorship as something that mainly happened in Santiago, the political and administrative capital of our country. But there was also Dawson, Tejas Verdes, Isla Quiriquina, Pisagua, and, in the same way, citizens from different areas of the territory protested against tyranny. In this case, the southernmost continental city in the world was the stage for that gesture of rebellion, forged in different town hall meetings held in the heart of the community.
Where do the silenced words and the pains that never healed persist? It is a truth and a certainty that art is often there to interrogate that trauma, to dive into the depths and bring back the lessons of history, sometimes even exposing the matrix of an era. Therefore, Lluvia Ácida has created a unique, impeccable document that unearths a time when horror and infamy were the daily currency. Amid the amnesiac choruses that some propose in our present, they have addressed the need for memory and the epic of a distant community that rose up against the dictates of a hooded and cruel general who betrayed the most elementary principles of a republic.
