[BIO] Gabriel Brnčić [Chile]

Gabriel Brnčić-Isaza se formó en su país natal, con Gustavo Becerra-Schmidt en la Universidad de Chile y en Argentina, en el Instituto Di Tella de Buenos Aires, con Francisco Kröpfl, Gerardo Gandini y Alberto Ginastera, allí también conoció a Iannis Xenakis, John Cage y Luigi Nono, de quienes recibió un importante estímulo.

Desde fines de 1974 reside en España y ha tomado parte destacada en las diversas iniciativas para el desarrollo de la música actual colaborando con compositores, intérpretes e investigadores (Fundació Phonos de Barcelona, Gabinete de Música Electroacústica de Cuenca, Associació Catalana de Compositors, Asociación de Música Electroacústica de España, Laboratorio de Investigación y Producción Musical de Buenos Aires, Festival Internacional de Música de Alicante, Centro para la Difusión de la Música Contemporánea, Ensems de València, Universidad Menéndez Pelayo, Universitat de Barcelona, Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona, Universitat Pompeu Fabra). Director artístico de la Fundación Phonos, es también profesor de teoría de la composición en el Master en Artes Digitales y en el curso de Arte y Tecnología de la Universidad Pompeu Fabra y de composición y análisis en la Escuela Superior de Música de Cataluña.

Su obra instrumental/electroacústica ha recibido premios y distinciones.

Es académico correspondiente de la Academia Chilena de Bellas Artes del Instituto de Chile.

Gabriel Brnčić-Isaza studied in Chile –his homeland– with Gustavo Becerra-Schmidt at the University of Chile, and in Argentina at the Instituto Di Tella with Francisco Kröpfl, Gerardo Gandini and Alberto Ginastera. Brnčić was lucky to meet Iannis Xenakis, John Cage and Luigi Nono, from whom he received crucial encouragement.

Since 1974 he has lived in Spain, where he has taken significant part in the various initiatives towards the development of music, in collaboration with composers, musicians and researchers: Barcelona Phonos Foundation, Cuenca Electroacoustic Music Studio, Catalonian Association of Composers, Electroacoustic Music Association of Spain, Centre for the Spreading of Contemporary Music, Valencia ENSEMS, Menéndez Pelayo University, University of Barcelona, Barcelona Contemporary Culture Centre (CCCB), Pompeu Fabra University. Artistic Director of Phonos Foundation and teacher of composition and music theory at the Master of Digital Arts’ course of the Pompeu Fabra University, his instrumental/electroacoustic work is often performed and broadcast and has won him various awards and honours.

In 1999 he was unanimously elected corresponding member of the Chilean Academy of Fine Arts of the Instituto de Chile.
