Pueblo Nuevo Netlabel is pleased to present the album «Alt-azor«, electroacoustic version from Vicente Huidobro poem «Altazor» by Oscar Chaves / Julio Shalom.

«Alt-azor belongs to a cycle of thematic works that in its time was called «Voces Latinoamericanas» (Latin American Voices). It entailed moving to a country in the region, choosing a representative text from its literary history, and going in search of local inhabitants to lend their voices for its narration. This is how I chose the poem Altazor, by Vicente Huidobro. Then with a selection of texts I proceeded to visit different places in Chile, including the universities Católica, Usach and of Chile in Santiago; the Plaza de Armas and the Plaza del Mercado also in Santiago, plus a small town called Yungay in the VIII Region.

Hundreds of people were interviewed in order collect the voices. The procedure was to approach some person or group of persons, to explain the project to them, and to let them choose a fragment that they liked to be narrated there during the same small break in their daily routine. There were also recordings made in the studio and in private spaces.

All the sonic material was then composed in the studios of CMT of the SCD (Actually LAIM of the University ARCIS). I used the system Pro Tools, GRM Tools, a pair of Alesis synthesizers, AKG and Berinhger microphones, and later my ex’s computer.

I should say that I very much enjoyed realizing this piece!»
