Pueblo Nuevo Netlabel se complace en presentar el disco “Poemas de Porcelana”, del artista visual y músico chileno Jorge Cabieses-Valdés, con la colaboración de Marcelo Peña Cortés (MIOPEC).

“Poemas de Porcelana” es el título del disco que reúne una selección de dos performances realizadas en el marco de la exposición “De las Prácticas Cotidianas de Oposición” de Jorge Cabieses-Valdés en D21 Proyectos de Arte (2020). En la muestra individual el artista presentó las obras “Porcelanatron IV y V”, instrumentos musicales construidos a partir de piezas de cerámica gres esmaltada. Inspirados en el potencial acústico que toda pieza de cerámica posee, los instrumentos emiten un sonido agudo y cristalino que proviene del ahuecamiento y de la dureza de su material cerámico.

Para “Porcelanatron IV y V” el artista trabajó a partir de 14 floreros de la Fábrica de Cerámica de Lota pertenecientes a la colección de Pedro Montes, propias del ámbito doméstico y ornamental. Las piezas cerámicas fabricadas por el artista intentan imitar la apariencia de estos floreros fallando irremediablemente y presentándose en total deformación, forzando así sus superficies rígidas a vibrar y cantar grotescamente.

Esta no es la primera vez que el artista trabaja con la cerámica tradicional de Lota. En el año 2018 manipuló figuras pertenecientes a la colección del Museo de Artes Decorativas (Orfeón, Lota), donde a cada figura le correspondió una réplica acústica de gran escala que emulaba el sonido percutido sobre las figuras.

El disco cuenta con la participación del músico y productor Marcelo Peña Cortés aka MIOPEC (Tobías Alcayota, MKRNI), quien interpreta arreglos de viola y sintetizadores y, además, está a cargo de la mezcla y masterización del disco.

“Poemas de Porcelana” (“Porcelain Poems”) is the title of the album that brings together a selection of two performances realized within the context of the exhibition “De las Prácticas Cotidianas de Oposición” (“From Daily Practices of Opposition”) by Jorge Cabieses-Valdés in the D21 Art Projects (2020). In an individual exhibition the artist presented the works “Porcelanatron IV & V”, musical instruments constructed from pieces of glazed stoneware ceramics. Inspired by the acoustic potential that every piece of ceramic possesses, the instruments emit a sharp and crystalline sound that comes from the hollowness and hardness of their ceramic material.

For “Porcelanatron IV & V” the artist’s work is based on 14 vases from the Lota Ceramic Factory belonging to the Pedro Montes collection, typical of the domestic and ornamental environment. The ceramic pieces made by the artist try to imitate the appearance of these vases, failing irretrievably and presenting themselves in total deformation, thus forcing their rigid surfaces to vibrate and sing grotesquely.

This is not the first time that the artist has worked with the traditional ceramics of Lota. In 2018 he manipulated figures belonging to the collection of the Museum of Decorative Arts (Orfeón, Lota) where each figure had a large-scale acoustic replica that emulated the sound percussed on the figures.

The album features the participation of the musician and producer Marcelo Peña Cortés aka MIOPEC (Tobías Alcayota, MKRNI), who plays viola and synthesizer arrangements and is also in charge of mixing and mastering the album.
